Level 2 Analysis
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali. At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.Cooling System Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Testing the coolant can be done at your Cat dealer. Caterpillar S O S Coolant Analysis is the best way to monitor the condition of your coolant and your cooling system. S O S Coolant Analysis is a program that is based on periodic samples. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluid Recommendations", "S.O.S Coolant Analysis" for more information.Coolant Analysis (Level 2) is required at initial 500 hours for the following cooling system situations:
New systems
Refilled systems
Systems that are converted from one fluid to another fluidCoolant Analysis (Level 2) is also required at every 2000 service hours.

(1) Coolant sampling valve
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Set the engine at low idle speed.
Open the left side engine compartment door. Sampling valve (1) is located near the front corner of the cylinder head as shown. Remove the protective cap from the sampling valve.
Obtain a sample. For additional information about coolant analysis, see Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations" or consult your Cat dealer.
Replace the protective cap. Close the left-hand engine compartment door.Submit the sample for Level 2 analysis.
