Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil filter and the engine oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and install " for more information.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The turbocharged 3054 engine uses an adapter housing for the engine oil filter base in order to supply oil to the turbocharger. The 3054B naturally aspirated engine does not use the adapter housing for the engine oil filter base. Engine oil filter base attaches directly to the engine block.

The turbocharged 3054 Marine engine is shown.
Remove four bolts (4) that secure the engine oil filter base (2) to the adapter housing for the engine oil filter base (1) (if equipped).
Remove the engine oil filter base (2) from the adapter housing for the engine oil filter base (1) (if equipped). Remove gasket (3) and plug all openings immediately.

The turbocharged 3054 Marine engine is shown.
If equipped, remove the oil supply line (5) for the turbocharger from the adapter housing for the engine oil filter base (1) .
If equipped, remove four nuts (6) that secure the adapter for the engine oil filter base (1) to the engine block. Remove the adapter housing for the engine oil filter base (1) from the engine.
