Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The case drain oil filter should be replaced only when a failure occurs in the hydraulic system, or the filter is being bypassed.Note: The case drain oil filter contains a 140 micron screen.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the implement to the ground with a slight downward pressure. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

(1) Hydraulic tank breaker relief valve
(2) Access door
Open access door (2) to the engine air cleaner compartment on the right-hand side of the machine. Hydraulic tank breaker relief valve (1) is located on the top of the hydraulic tank forward of the engine air cleaner housing. Press hydraulic tank breaker relief valve in order to relieve any tank pressure.
Remove the access plate that is located forward of the rear axle on the right-hand side of the machine.

(3) Case drain oil filter
Use a strap type wrench to remove case drain oil filter element (3). Dispose of the used filter element properly.
Clean the filter mounting base. Make sure that all of the used gasket is removed from the filter mounting base.
Apply a thin coat of oil to the seal on the new filter. Install a new filter hand tight until the seal of the filter contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on the filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base. Note: There are rotation index marks on the filter element that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 or a turn away from each other. When you tighten the filter, use the rotation index marks as a guide.
Tighten the filter according to the instructions that are printed on the filter. Use the index marks as a guide. For non-Cat filters, use the instructions that are provided with the filter. Note: You may need to use a Cat strap wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn the filter to the amount that is required for final installation. Make sure that the installation tool does not damage the filter.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Operate the steering, the brakes, and the implement.
Stop the engine. Inspect the filter for leaks. Make any necessary repairs.
Install the access plate that was removed in step 3 above.
Check the level of the hydraulic oil. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
