2. Pull idler (1) out from the frame far enough to attach three lifting slings.
If idler assembly is pulled more than 12 inches out from frame, it may fall out of guides. Personal injury can be the result.
3. Remove front idler assembly. The weight of the front idler assembly is 180 kg (395 lb). The following steps are to install the front idler.4. Position front idler into frame guides.5. Start By:a. remove front idler1. Drain the oil from the front idler. 2. Remove two bolts (1) and recoil spring assembly (2). 3. Remove two roll pins (3) from each shaft support (4). 4. Support the idler and remove two shaft supports (4). 5. Remove two Duo-Cone seals (5) from shaft supports (4). Remove shaft (7). 6. Remove two Duo-Cone seals (8) and two bearings (9). The following steps are to assemble the front idler. See Duo-Cone Seal Installation story in this manual.7. With tool (A) and a press, install two bronze bearings (9) into idler (6).8. With tool (B) install two Duo-Cone seals (8) into idler (6).9. Install new "O"-ring seals on shaft (7) and install shaft (7) into idler (6).10. Use tool (B) and install two Duo-Cone seals (5) into shaft supports (4).11. Install one shaft support (4) onto shaft (7) with roll pin (3) and insert shaft into idler (6).12. Lay the idler on its side and install remaining shaft support (4) onto the shaft with roll pin (3).13. Attach recoil spring assembly (2) with two bolts (1) to the idler assembly.14.
