Do not pull against upper frame plate (1) when installing the bearing in lower frame plate (2). This may cause the frame plates to bend and make it impossible to install the hitch pin
1. Lower the temperature of the bearing. Use tooling (A), and install the bearing into lower frame plate (2). The rod of the 5P5247 Hydraulic Cylinder must push against the top of the 6V2098 Sleeve.
Typical2. Lower the temperature of the bearing. Use tooling (B), and install the bearing into upper frame plate (1).
Typical3. Check the alignment of the bearings by installing pin (3). Pin (3) must fit through both bearings. If it does not, inspect the inside diameter of each bearing for nicks or burrs.
Typical4. Use tool (G) to install lip-type seals (6) and (7) in caps (4) and (5).5. Install lip-type seal (6) in upper cap (4). Upper cap (4) is identified by the grease fitting. Install the lip-type seal with the spring-loaded lip facing the direction shown.6. Install lip-type seal (7) in lower cap (5). Lower cap (5) does not have a grease fitting. Install the lip-type seal with the spring-loaded lip facing the direction shown.
Typical7. Put cap (5) in position on the rear lower frame, and install three bolts and washers evenly spaced around the cap.8. Lower the temperature of lower bearing cup (8), and install the bearing cup until it makes contact with cap (5).9. Remove cap (5).
Typical10. Put clean engine oil on bearing cones (9), and install them into the lower pivot pin bore and bearing cup (8).
Typical11. Lower the temperature of upper bearing cup (10). Install the bearing cup over the upper cone. Install cup (10) until it makes light contact with the upper cone.
Typical12. Put lower cap (5), upper cap (4) and the original shims in position on the lower rear frame. Install cap (4) so grease fitting (11) is in the position shown.13. Install three bolts and washers evenly spaced around the caps. Tighten the bolts.14. Use tooling (D) and a torque wrench to check the torque necessary to rotate the bearing cones. Remove or add shims under cap (4) until a torque of 2.7 to 8.5 N m (24 to 76 lb in) is needed to slowly turn the bearing cones. Install the rest of the bolts. Remove tooling (D).
Typical15. Lubricate the lip seal with 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease, and install spacer (12).
Typical The lip seals must not be installed into the bearing caps until after the bearing preload is set.16. Put cap (15) in position on the front frame, and install three bolts and washers (14) evenly spaced.17. Lower the temperature of lower bearing cup (13), and install it into the front frame until it seats against cap (15).18. Remove cap (15) and the three bolts.
