Installation Procedure
New Exciter Rotor Installation
Before installing new exciter rotor, record exciter rotor shaft dimension and new exciter rotor inner diameter dimension.
Illustration 3 g06148938
The exciter rotor should be heated to 110° C (230° F) for 24 minutes to aid installation. Before heating exciter rotor, remove leads from diodes, remove four screws from plastic plate to diode support (indicated by red arrows in Illustration 3), and lift so there is no contact with the mounting supports. Do not remove aluminum plate from assembly. Refer to Illustration 3 for an example of an induction heater required for this step.Repair of Main Rotor Lead
Illustration 4 g06148943
Remove damaged portion of lead cable. Splice and solder new cable at the location between the clamp bands used to secure the lead wires. The splice should be crimped and soldered using a seamless ferrule. Refer to Illustration 4.Note: Using flexible cable of the same cross sectional area or the original magnet wire is acceptable. If the flexible cable is used for the repair, secure the 2 leads together as close as possible to the stud connection point.
Prior to securing with clamp bands, insulate the splice connection area and insert into grade A silicon impregnated sleeving. Grade A silicon impregnated sleeving is also used on the clamp bands to protect against rubbing.

Illustration 6 g06148950
Route the repaired cable, cut to length and install Burndyl terminal part number YA-V4CL. Crimp and solder the terminal to secure the connection. Refer to Illustration 5 and Illustration 6.
Wrap the final assembly with grade A silicon impregnated sleeving.

Illustration 8 g06148993
Install the cable terminals using a M6 nut with washer (concave washer is built into nut). Tighten nut to 4 N m (35 lb in). Make sure that stud does not spin. Refer to Illustration 7 and Illustration 8.

Illustration 10 g06196120
Position clamp band 6.35 mm (0.25 inch) to 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) from edge of shaft taper.
Illustration 11 g06196121
Position clamp band on shaft 25.4 mm (1 inch) to 76.2 mm (3 inch) from end turns.
The final assembly should match Illustration 9. Make sure that the leads are routed and secured together so that the leads are touching along the length of the rotor shaft. This routing procedure holds the leads more securely in place. The clamp bands that secure the rotor leads to the rotor shaft should be spaced 6.35 mm (0.25 inch) to 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) from edge of the shaft taper, and 25.4 mm (1 inch) to 76.2 mm (3 inch) from the end turns. Refer to Illustration 10 and Illustration 11.New Bearing and Sleeve Installation Procedure

Clean new bearing sleeve and bearing outer ring. Apply Perfect Seal to the surface of the outer ring of bearing. Refer to Illustration 12 for Perfect Seal application method.Note: When preparing NDE bracket for installation, apply a small amount of Perfect Seal in bottom of bracket and install load spring and O-ring. Perfect Seal is used to hold the spring and O-ring in place during installation.Note: Prior to installing the
