The power mode function enables the operator to select a lower machine hydraulic output level when working conditions do not require full hydraulic power output. The power mode is selected with the power mode switch on the soft switch panel (SSP). The three available power modes are economy mode, power mode and travel mode. The engine ECM controls the power mode operation. When a power mode is selected, the machine ECM will illuminate the LED indicator on the SSP that corresponds to the selected power mode.The machine ECM drives the outputs for the proportional main pump power shift solenoid and the proportional swing pump power shift solenoid that will determine hydraulic power levels from the pumps. The engine ECM sends commands to the machine ECM over the Cat Data Link. The machine ECM sends data for machine travel direction, air filter plugged status and hydraulic oil temp data to the engine ECM.When the operator selects one of the power modes, the engine ECM will command the machine ECM to drive the main pump solenoid at a constant current level in order to produce the correct power shift pressure to the main pump. The machine ECM will drive the swing pump solenoid in the same manner. The engine ECM will compare the current engine speed to a "target" engine speed that is programmed for each throttle position in the selected power mode. If the hydraulic load on the machine causes the current engine speed to fall below the "target" engine speed, the engine ECM will command the machine ECM to reduce the output current to the main pump solenoid in order to de-stroke the pump and reduce the pump pressure. This will decrease the load on the engine. The swing pump will be kept at a constant output level. This condition is known as an "engine under speed condition". When this occurs, a higher engine speed should be selected.If the limp home mode switch is ON or if a diagnostic code is active for one of the solenoids, economy mode will be activated.Power mode output currents are configured using the Cat ET configuration screen.
