Configuring VIMS Communicator
Connecting to the VIMS Communicator
Use the following steps in order to connect to the VIMS Communicator:
Apply power to the VIMS Communicator module.
Connect the crossover cable between the network port on the laptop and the network port on the Communicator.
Open the network settings on the laptop by right-clicking on "My Network Places" and selecting "Properties".
In "Network Connections", right click on "Local Area Connection".
Select "Properties".
From the list of connection types, select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
Click on the "Properties" button.

Select the "Alternate Configuration" tab.All changes will be made to the "Alternate Configuration" only. Note any current settings in order to restore the settings after completion.The Communicator uses the following information:Default IP Address - 192.168.0.100Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0To talk to the Communicator, the laptop needs to be in the same range.Note: If the VIMS Communicator is assigned a static IP address that IP address, subnet mask and default gateway information must be used.
In the "Alternate Configuration" window select "User Configured".
Enter the following information:IP Address - 192.168.0.105Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0Gateway - 192.168.0.2
Select "OK" in order to save the changes.
Select "OK" in order to close the "Local Area Connection Properties".
Open Internet Explorer. Type in 192.168.0.100 in the address barThe Communicator home page will open.Network Configuration

On the left navigation bar select "Network".
Enter the Username and Password when prompted.Refer to the following list for the default Username and the default Password.Username - adminPassword - vimsNetwork Settings
Enter the following information for the machine that has the VIMS Communicator connected by using the worksheet that was completed earlier.Use DHCP - On if using Dynamic IP assignment and off if using a static IP address. If worksheet question 4 was answered static turn DHCP off.Static or Fallback IP - Enter the IP address for the machine from the worksheet if using a static IP address. If using DHCP to assign a dynamic address, leave the default. Refer to Table 2.Network Mask - Enter the network mask for the network from the worksheet if using static IP (worksheet 5). If using a dynamic address leave the default. Refer to Table 2.Default Gateway - Enter the default gateway for the network from the worksheet if you are using a static IP. If you are using a dynamic address, leave the default. Refer to Table 2.FTP Settings
Enter the following information into the VIMS Communicator by using the worksheet that was completed earlier. Refer to Table 1.IP Address - Enter the IP address for the FTP server.User Name - Enter the user name for the FTP server.Password - Enter the password for the FTP server.
