Service brakes disengaged. Parking brake disengagedWhen the parking brake control is moved to the DISENGAGED position, the solenoid within brake control valve (14) is energized. Oil from piston pump (18) flows through brake control valve (14) to parking brake (15). This oil disengages the parking brake.Pressure drops in the line from piston pump (18) which causes the pump control valve, which is part of the piston pump, to move and the piston pump upstrokes until accumulator (8) is charged.If the engine or the piston pump fails, accumulator (8) can supply the oil flow that is required to disengage parking brake (15).

Service brakes disengaged. Parking brake engaged When the parking brake control is moved to the ENGAGED position, the solenoid within brake control valve (14) is de-energized. The solenoid blocks oil flow from accumulator (8) and piston pump (18). The solenoid also directs oil from parking brake (15) to the tank. The parking brake is engaged by spring force.The contacts of pressure switch (9) are moved and a signal is sent to the ECM. The Caterpillar Monitoring System provides a category 1 warning when the transmission control is in the N position. The Caterpillar Monitoring System provides a category 3 warning if the transmission control is moved from the N position.Component Locations

Accumulator (8) and brake control valve (14) are located on the inside right of the rear frame. Pressure switch (9) is installed in the brake control valve.
