CF-4 oil is available in 10W30 and 15W40. Other commercial oils which do not meet CF-4 specifications are NOT acceptable for used in Caterpillar engines.
For direct injection engines, new engine oil must have a Total Base Number (TBN), as measured by ASTM D-2896 procedure, of ten times the percent of fuel sulfur. The TBN chart in the Referencesis valid for PC engines but is not correct for DI engines. See the TBN chart that follows for DI engines.
