(3CS3605-Up),
C-12 (2KS8751-Up),
3406E (2WS12431-Up, 1MM500-Up) On-Highway Truck EnginesDescription of Change: New software is available for the above engines. The new software does not introduce any new features, but it does include improvements intended to resolve issues found in former software. The issues are listed below. The software provides corrections to improve the calculated fuel economy on the Multi-Torque engine rating on the above C-10 and C-12 Engines. In the former software versions, if the Transmission Style parameter was programmed to Eaton Top 2 and the Top 2 Shift and Lockout solenoids were not connected to Output No. 6 and No. 7 at that time, open circuit diagnostic codes would occur for Output No. 6 and No. 7. If the Transmission Style is changed to another option, the Open Circuit Diagnostic Codes remain active instead of automatically clearing. The new software corrects this clearing problem.
There have been a few reported occurrences that 64-12 Diagnostic Codes have occurred erroneously. On these truck engines, there has not been any reported performance complaints, but merely an over-logging of the false 64-12 due to the software being over sensitive to normal signal variations. The new software has additional filtering to prevent these false Cam Speed/Timing Sensor Faults.
The former software had a problem with the PTO operation when using a remote throttle. If the PTO Configuration is programmed to Remote Throttle and the PTO Top Engine Limit is programmed to any value below 1600 RPM, the engine will only limit the RPM down to 1600. For example, if the PTO TEL is programmed to 1300 RPM, the remote throttle can still accelerate the engine up to 1600 RPM. The new software will limit the Remote Throttle to whatever the programmed PTO TEL is.
The former software on engines with TEL of 1800 RPM may perform sluggishly when operated under extremely low load or when bobtailing in 4th through 7th gear with the Eaton 10 Speed Autoshift Transmissions. Information was released on this subject and it recommended raising the TEL to 2120 RPM to improve engine operation. With the new software, the Top Engine Limit can be left at 1820 RPM or above.
When operating in cruise control and climbing a steep grade with an Eaton Autoshift Transmission, a substantial amount of vehicle speed can be lost when the transmission downshifts with the former software. The new software makes provisions to correct this problem.
Adaptable To: Software flash files for the above engines are now available on the corporate mailbox for download. The FIND system has been updated to reflect the new part numbers.
