Remove engine oil filter housings. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Filter Housings - Remove".
Remove the front idler gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Idler Gears (Front) - Remove".
Remove the crankshaft front gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Gear - Remove".
Remove the fuel transfer pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Transfer Pump - Remove".
Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".
Remove the priority valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Priority Valve - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the engine oil from the engine oil pan to a level that is below the outlet elbow into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".
Remove the oil suction tube.
Remove the oil supply tube that is between the prelubrication oil pump and the oil distribution tee.
Remove the bolts that hold the engine oil pan to the bottom of the front housing.

Remove the following O-ring seals from the front housing: (1), (3) and (4).
Remove sleeve (2). Remove the O-ring seals from the sleeve. Note: Sleeve (2) carries filtered oil to the crankshaft. Therefore, cleanliness is important during this procedure.

Remove bolts (5) from the inside of the front housing.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the top of front housing (6). The weight of front housing (6) is approximately 256 kg (565 lb).

Remove the necessary bolts and install Tooling (B) in the cylinder block. Remove the remaining bolts that hold the front housing in place. Carefully move the front housing along Tooling (B). Remove the front housing.
Remove gasket (7) from the front of the cylinder block.

If necessary, remove tube assembly (8) from front housing (6).
