Check the gauges and the driven equipment frequently while the engine is operating under a load. The engine can be operated for extended periods of time at full load.Partial Load Operation
Extended operation at low idle or at reduced load may cause increased oil consumption and carbon buildup in the cylinders. Carbon buildup results in a loss of power and/or poor performance.Illustration 1 graphically represents the recommended time that is allowed for partial load operation of a 3600 Series Engine that is configured for heavy fuel oil.When partial load operation exceeds the recommended time, change the fuel to distillate diesel fuel or to marine diesel fuel. (2) For operation on heavy fuel oil in this range, use two-step control of the inlet air temperature. (3) In this range, the use of heavy fuel oil is not recommended.
