24. Use tooling (C) to install bearing (34) in gear (35) until it is in the center of the gear. Gear (35) is the idler gear between the torque converter and the transmission and scavenge pump. 25. Install a spiral snap ring (36) on both sides of gear (35). 26. Install shaft (37) in the gear. 27. Put gear (35) in position in the housing and install lock and two bolts that hold the gear in place. 28. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolts in housing (38) and fasten a hoist to the housing. With the cut away section of carrier (28) in alignment with gear (35) in the housing, install housing (38) over the torque converter. 29. Put retainer (39) in position on the housing and install the bolts that hold the retainer and housing to the carrier. 30. Heat the carriers (41) for both sides of the rotor to a maximum temperature of 275°C (135°C) and install them on the rotor.31. Install the rings (40) on both carriers on the rotor. 32. Remove bolts (3), the lock and gear (4) from the housing. 4. Remove shaft (5) from the gear. 5. Remove the spiral snap ring (6) from both sides of the gear. Use tooling (A) to remove bearing (7) from the gear. 6. Remove bolts (8) and pilot (9) from the torque converter housing. 7. Remove bolts (11) and retainer (10) from the end of the output shaft. 8. Remove output shaft (12) from the torque converter. Remove the ring, spacer and bearing from the shaft. Use tool (B) to remove the seal ring from the output shaft. 9. Remove carrier (13) from the torque converter. 10. Remove bolts (14) and impeller (15) from the torque converter housing. 11. Remove bolts (16) and gear assembly (17) from the impeller. Use tooling (C) and a press to remove hub (18) from the impeller. 12. Remove retainer (19), race (20) and bearing (21) from stator (22).13. Remove stator (22) from the torque converter. 14. Remove ring (23) and race (24) from both sides of the stator. Heat the stator to a maximum temperature of 350°F (177°C) for 5 minutes only. Use tooling (C) and a press to remove spacer (25) from the stator while the stator is still hot. 15. Remove retainer (28), bearing (27) and the race from turbine (26).16.
