Personal injury could result if there is insufficient air pressure to keep the parking brake disengaged during the parking brake adjustment procedure. If the low brake pressure alert indicator sounds while the linkage is being adjusted, immediately stop the adjustment procedure and start the engine. Allow the air pressure to reach the operating range. If the air pressure lowers to a point where the force of the compressed springs in the air chamber overcomes the force of the air pressure, the springs will engage the parking brake.
1. Start the engine and allow the air pressure to increase up to the operating range.2. Move the parking brake control knob to the OFF (brake disengaged) position. Stop the engine. Leave the disconnect switch in the ON position.3. Remove pin (5).4. Pull the end of the brake actuating lever (3) toward the air chamber until the brake shoes contact drum (1). Hold lever (3) in this position during Step 5.5. Loosen locknut (2). Rotate yoke (4) on the air chamber threaded rod until the holes in yoke (4) and lever (3) are aligned. Rotate yoke (4) one turn in the direction away from the air chamber. Insert pin (5) and tighten locknut (2).6. Move the parking brake control knob to the ON (brake engaged) position and check stroke (distance [A]). Complete Steps 1 through 5 again if distance (A) is not within 19.0 3.0 mm (.75 .12 in). The parking brake is adjusted correctly if the machine can not be moved in first speed forward. Also, brake drum (1) must be free to rotate.
