PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR TIGHTENING THE LINKAGE PIN RETENTION BOLTS
MODELS INVOLVED - CERTAIN 980M AND 982M MEDIUM WHEEL LOADERS

The linkage pin retention bolts need to be inspected on the products listed below. The existing bolts can loosen in service. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 09Aug2017 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Note: Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section".
Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.
Inspect and if needed replace the bolts and associated hardware.
1. Raise and block the linkage with a suitable support. Refer to UENR3100, Disassembly and Assembly.
2. Park and de-energize the machine. Refer to UENR3095, Operation and Maintenance Manual.
3. Locate the lift cylinder to lift arm pin. Refer to Region A in Image1.1.1.

4. Tighten bolt (B) to a specified torque of 460 N.m (340 ft-lbs.) and check for movement. Refer to Image1.2.1.

5. If the bolt turns, remove the bolt and replace with a new 9K-9731 Spacer, 8T-5439 Washer, and 8T-5460 Bolt. Refer to Image1.3.1.
6. Tighten the new bolt to a specified torque of 460 +/- 60 N.m (340 +/- 40 ft-lb.).
7. Repeat Steps 3 though 6 for the other lift cylinder pin.
