Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
Remove the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install". The information is in this manual.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the battery cables from the batteries.
Place identification marks on the wires for installation purposes.

Remove nut (1) and disconnect three electrical wires (2) from the electric starting motor.

Slide boot (3) away from solenoid (4) .

Remove nut (5) and disconnect three electrical wires (6) from solenoid (4) .

Remove nut (7) and shield (8) from solenoid (4) .

Remove two nuts (9) and disconnect two electrical wires (10) from solenoid (4) .

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to the electric starting motor. Remove three bolts (11) from the electric starting motor. Remove the electric starting motor and the gasket from the engine. The electric starting motor weighs 28 kg (62 lb) .Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Install the gasket and the electric starting motor to the engine. Install three bolts (11) in order to secure the electric starting motor to the engine. Remove the tooling from the electric starting motor.

Connect two electrical wires (10) to solenoid (4) and install two nuts (9) .

Install shield (8) to solenoid (4) . Install nut (7) in order to secure shield (8) to solenoid (4) .

Connect three electrical wires (6) to solenoid (4) and install nut (5) .

Slide boot (3) toward solenoid (4) .

Connect three electrical wires (2) to the electric starting motor and install nut (1) .
Connect the battery cables to the batteries. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.End By:
