SR4 Generators were received from the supplier with red insulating paint on the windings, red paint on the inside sheet metal parts, and the outside was given a finish coat of yellow paint. The generators were then given an additional finish coat of yellow paint before they were shipped from Caterpillar. The generators no longer get the red paint or yellow finish paint at the supplier.
Currently, the generator supplier paints the sheet metal parts, inside and out, with a standard yellow primer. The windings still receive the red insulating paint. Then Caterpillar gives the generators a finish coat of yellow paint before they are shipped from the factory.
Occasionally, a generator must be shipped directly from the supplier to a Caterpillar Dealer. With the new painting procedure, the dealer must put the finish coat of yellow paint on the generator.
