START BY:a. remove hydrostatic power control unit 1. Fasten a hoist and lift the hydrostatic power control unit, and put it in position on the repair stand of tooling (A), and fasten the brackets of tooling (A) to the hydrostatic power control unit. Weight of the 943 hydrostatic power control unit is 608 kg (1350 lb.). Weight of the 953 hydrostatic power control unit is 793 kg (1750 lb.). 2. Fasten two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts and a hoist to the pump drive. Remove 21 bolts (1), and remove the pump drive housing. Weight of the housing is 50 kg (110 lb.). 3. Remove gear (3) and drive shaft (2) for the charge pump from the hydrostatic power control unit. 4. Use tool (B) and a press to remove the bearing cones from gear (3). 5. Use tooling (C) to remove bearing cup (4) from the case for the hydrostatic power control unit. 6. Use tooling (C) to remove bearing cup (5) and the shim from the pump drive housing. 7. Use tooling (D) to remove seals (6) from the case and pump drive housing.Assemble Pump Drive
The seal must be installed square in the bore of the pump housing within .51 mm (.020 in.).1. Use tooling (A) to install the lip-type seal in the pump drive housing with the lip in as shown. Put clean oil on the lip of the seal. 2. Use tooling (A) to install the lip-type seal in the case with the lip in as shown. Put clean oil on the lip of the seal. 3. Heat bearing cones (1) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F), and install on the gear as shown. 4. Install a 1U1045 Shim which is 2.560 mm (.1008 in.) thick and bearing cup (2) in the pump drive housing with tooling (A) until they are tight against their seat. Use tooling (A) to install the bearing cup in the case. 5. Do not install the drive shaft for the charge pump at this time. Install gear (3) in the case. Use tool (D) to turn the pump gear to engage the teeth of the gears. 6. Install two 3/8"-16 NC guide bolts (5) at least 6 in. long in the case. Do not put liquid gasket material on the pump drive housing or case at this time.7. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolts with nuts and washers in the pump drive housing, and fasten a hoist.8. Install pump drive housing (4) on the case. Weight is 50 kg (110 lb.). 9. Remove the guide bolts, and install the bolts that hold the pump drive housing in place. See illustration B6712X1 for the location of the different length bolts. 10. Install tooling (B) and a 38 mm (1.5 in.) piece of 8S9355 XT3 Hose that has been cut through the side to measure the end play of gear (3). Without liquid gasket material between the pump drive housing and the case, the end play must be 0.33 0.08
