Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install" in this manual.
Remove the fan and the fan guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan and Fan Guard - Remove and Install" in this manual.

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with the bare hand.Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 23 L (3.5 US gal).

Loosen both of the hose clamps on lower radiator hose (4). Remove the radiator bottom hose from the machine.
Loosen both of the hose clamps on radiator top hose (1). Remove the radiator top hose from the machine.
Loosen the hose clamp that is on oil filler tube (3). Remove two nuts (2) and the oil filler tube from the machine.

Disconnect hose assemblies (5) from the hydraulic oil cooler.

Remove bolts (6) and front grill (7) from the radiator guard.

Cut the wire ties that secure wiring harness (8) for horn (9) in place. Disconnect the wiring harness from the horn and remove the wiring harness from the radiator guard.

The above view is the top, front view of the radiator guard.
Remove bolts (10) .

Remove bolts (11) and access panels (12) from the machine.

Note: Do not damage the radiator core when the radiator is removed from the machine.
Fasten Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to radiator guard (13), as shown.

Remove bolts (14), retainers (15), and rubber pads (16) that hold the radiator in place.
Carefully remove the radiator guard, the radiator, and the oil cooler from the machine. The weight of the assembly is 186 kg (410 lb).
