Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Position crankshaft gear (14) and install 12 bolts (13).

Position gear shaft (12) and install four bolts (11).
Tighten four bolts (11) to a torque of 140 10 N m (105 5 lb ft).

(4) Camshaft Idler Gear. (9) Bearing. (E) 81.060 0.010 mm (3.1913 0.0004 inch). (F) 1.00 0.25 mm (0.040 0.010 inch).
Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to install the bearings in camshaft idler gears (4). Install bearing (9) into gear (4) to Depth (F), as shown.
Place clean engine oil on the bearings and install idler shafts (9).
Machine the inside diameter of bearing (9) to Dimension (E), as shown.Note: The surface finish of Bore (E) must be 0.8 micrometers. Pitch Diameter (H) must be concentric with a total indicator reading of 0.12 mm (0.005 inch). Surface (G) of gear (4) must be square with Bore (E) within 0.05 mm (0.002 inch).

Place clean engine oil on the thrust washer (8) and install.

Position gears (6) into place and install six bolts (5).Tighten six bolts (5) to a torque of 240 20 N m (177 14.8 lb ft).

(2) Cluster Idler Gear. (3) Bearing. (A) 75.060 0.010 mm (2.9551 0.0004 inch). (B) 1.5 0.5 mm (0.06 0.02 inch).

Use Tooling (A) and a suitable press to install bearing (4) in gear (3). Install bearing (4) to Depth (B), as shown.
Replace the gear assembly.
Illustration 9 g06259447Note: When you install the rear cluster gear assembly to the crank gear, there are no timing marks on the G3516 engines.
Put clean engine oil on the bearing and install the gear assembly on the shaft. Make sure that the marks on the gear assembly and the crankshaft are in alignment with the rotation of the engine, as shown.
Place clean engine oil on gear (3) and install gear (3) onto shaft (12).
Install plate (2) and four bolts (1).End By:
Install the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Install".
Install the crankshaft rear seal and wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal and Wear Sleeve - Install".
