Remove the front tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position a suitable container under the front wheel in order to contain the oil for storage or for disposal. Remove drain plug (3) and drain the oil from the front wheel. The capacity of each front wheel is 7.5 L (2.0 US gal).
Remove six bolts (2) and the washers that hold cover (1) in place. Install two 3/8 in - 16 NC forcing screws into cover (1). Tighten the forcing screws in order to remove the cover. The weight of the cover is 8.2 kg (18 lb). Remove the O-ring seal from cover (1).

Remove O-ring plug (4) and drain the oil from the front service brake into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.

Attach Tooling (A) to front wheel assembly (5). Position a suitable lifting sling on Tooling (A). Secure the suitable lifting sling to a hoist. Support the weight of the front wheel housing.
Remove eight locking bolts (6). Install two 3/8 in - 16 NC forcing screws into retainer (7). Tighten the forcing screws in order to remove the retainer.
Remove the shim pack (not shown) and remove roller bearing cone (8).
Remove front wheel assembly (5) from the machine. The weight of the front wheel assembly is 490 kg (1080 lb).

Remove roller bearing cup (9) from the front wheel assembly.

Remove roller bearing cup (10) from the front wheel assembly.
Remove the outer half of Duo-Cone seal (11) and the outer half of Duo-Cone seal (12) from the front wheel assembly.

Remove roller bearing cone (13) from the spindle. Remove the inner half of Duo-Cone seal (11) and the inner half of Duo-Cone seal (12) from the front service brake.
