Removal
1. Remove the upper housing and upper shaft group.2. Remove bolts (2) and locks from the front end of idler shaft (1).
TYPICAL IDLER GEAR AND SHAFT
1-Idler gear shaft. 2-Bolts (six).3. Attach a sling and hoist to idler gear (3) to prevent the gear from falling when shaft (1) is pushed out.4. Use a 8B7548 Push Puller with two 8B7550 Legs, 5F7341 Adapters and the 7F9540 Hydraulic Puller with a 9S5880 Hydraulic Pump to push the idler gear shaft from the idler gear and housing. It is necessary to support the shaft as it is pushed from the housing. When removing idler gear, keep the bearings in the gear to prevent them from being damaged.

TYPICAL IDLER GEAR REMOVALIdler Shaft Installation
1. Lower the idler gear into position with bearing correctly aligned.2. Line up the six holes in the shaft with the holes in the housing before the shaft is pulled into place.3. Use a 8B7548 Push Puller bolted directly to the lower housing, 7F1860 Handle, 7F1858 Forcing Screw, 7F1859 Forcing Screw Nut and 7F9540 Hydraulic Puller with a 9S5800 Hydraulic Pump to pull the idler shaft through the idler gear and into the rear web of the housing.
