PROBLEM
The parts service 2T3013 Spider and Bearing Groups (u-joints) for the new 8.5C PTO drive shaft assembly on certain 793D Off-Highway Trucks need to be inspected and replaced if necessary. The 2T3013 Spider and Bearing Group is a service parts replacement of the original spider group that comes from the supplier in the 339-6380 Universal Joint Group. This 2T3013 Spider and Bearing Group may show signs of premature wear.
Vibration and noise are the primary indicators of a u-joint/spider group failure or pending failure, and periodic visual inspection of the service u-joints for discoloration or grease loss should be done. If any of these signs are evident, the u-joints should be changed as soon as any of these things are noticed.

ACTION REQUIRED
This service letter should only apply to those 339-6380 Universal Joint Groups that have had the original u-joints/spider groups removed and replaced with the 2T3013 part number from the parts system (Image 2). If the original u-joints/spider groups that came with the 339-6380 (Image 1 with Cat name casted on bearing caps) are still running in that assembly, they should be left on the machine until PCR.
To replace the Spider and Bearing Groups remove the driveshaft per D&A Service Manual RENR8332.
