Information:
Step 1. Manual Linkage Check
Test Procedure: With engine stopped, manually move actuator lever and linkage to full FUEL ON position against stop screw. Expected Results: Linkage should move thru full travel until it is against stop screw without binding, excessive force or excessive backlash. Step 2. Verify Failsafe Circuit Operation
Test Procedure: Stop the engine. Visually check that the circuit for failsafe operation at the 2301 Control is correct as shown in chart. If not wired as shown in chart, make correction to wiring. Now measure actuator voltage across terminals T16 & T17 (T5 & T6 Standby unit) with actuator still connected in circuit. Expected Results: Voltage measurement should be zero. Step 3. Correct Part Number and Component Location Check
Test Procedure: Verify the following:Correct 2301 Control and Actuator (by part number).Correct magnetic pickup location.Correct Rated speed setting.Overspeed protective components operate correctly. Step 4. Fuel Linkage Check
Test Procedure: Disconnect linkage from the actuator lever to see if linkage moves toward FUEL ON, or toward FUEL OFF position. Expected Results: On most engines the linkage should not move at all. However, the 3500 is designed to move to the OFF position. Some of the gas engine linkages (due to weight) could go either direction depending upon linkage configuration. Step 5. Check Actuator Oil Pressure Output
Test Procedure: With engine stopped, remove the test pressure plug from actuator and install 6V2044 Test Pressure Gauge. Remove jumper (or external Idle Switch) wire from terminals T14 or T15 (T9 or T10, Standby unit). Now start the engine and run at Low Idle. Read pressure from test pressure gauge. For correct pressure range, see ELECTRIC GOVERNOR ACTUATOR SPECIFICATIONS in Service Procedure D. Expected Results: Oil pressure should be at relief setting of 2750 kPa (400 psi) with constant output. Step 6. Check Actuator Oil Supply and Mechanical Drive
Test Procedure: See Service Procedure D to check actuator functions that follow:a. Correct oil supply.b. Plugged drain.c. Oil too thin.d. Drive has rotation.e. Correct direction of rotation.f. Damage to Coupling or Splines.Engine compartment oil sump must be full, and suction line must be open and without air leaks (caused by faulty gaskets or loose fittings). Actuator oil drain must drain freely. Expected Results: To find problem with the actuator drive or oil circuit. Step 7. Measure Actuator Amperage at Control
Test Procedure: Run engine at High Idle and measure actuator amperage at 2301 Control terminals T16 and T17 (T5 & T6, Standby unit). Expected Results: Amperage to be less than 60 ma at High Idle. Step 8. Check Resistance of Common Grounds
Test Procedure: Stop the engine. Measure the resistance between the common grounds of engine, 2301 Control and the switchgear. Expected Results: Resistance measure less than 2 ohms. Step 9. Check Supply Voltage to Control
Test Procedure: Run the engine and measure the supply voltage to the 2301 Control. Manually shake (move rapidly) the supply leads to find any poor contact points. Expected Results: Voltage more than 20 VDC and constant. Step 10. Increase Ramp Time
