Schematic of the temperature sensor (torque converter oil)
This diagnostic code is recorded when the Transmission ECM receives an intermittent signal from the temperature sensor. The engine must be running. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The temperature sensor is out of adjustment.
The temperature sensor has failed.
The supply circuit is open.
The return circuit (wire C241-BK(Black)) is open.
The signal circuit (wire 481-GN(Green)) or the supply circuit (wire X800-OR(Orange)) is open.
The signal circuit (wire 481-GN(Green)) or the supply circuit (wire X800-OR(Orange)) is shorted to ground.
The signal circuit (wire 481-GN(Green)) or the supply circuit (wire X800-OR(Orange)) is shorted to the + battery.
The ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely. Note: Each connector contact should withstand 45 N (10 lb) of pull. Each wire should remain in the connector body. This test checks whether the wire was properly crimped in the contact and whether the contact was properly inserted into the connector. Test Step 1. CHECK THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE SENSOR.
Check the adjustment of the temperature sensor. See Testing and Adjusting, "temperature Sensor - Adjust".
Reconnect the machine harness to the temperature sensor.
Operate the machine.
Check that the diagnostic code is active. Expected Result:The diagnostic code is no longer active. Results:
OK - The diagnostic code is no longer active. Adjustment of the temperature sensor corrected the diagnostic codeSTOP
NOT OK - The diagnostic code remains active. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the temperature sensor.
At the connector for the temperature sensor, measure the voltage between contact A and frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage is 8 DCV. Results:
OK - The voltage is 8 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 1.
NOT OK - The voltage is less than 8 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 6.Test Step 3. CHECK THE RETURN CIRCUIT.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the temperature sensor.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance between contact B (wire C241-BK(Black)) and frame ground. Expected Result:The resistance should measure 5 ohms or less. Results:
OK
