Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system by slowly loosening the fill cap on top of the hydraulic oil tank.2. Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic oil tank into a suitable container. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 80 liters (21.1 U.S. gal). Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, Form No. KEBU7507, for the correct procedure. 3. Disconnect four hose assemblies (2) from shift valve (3). Cap and plug immediately.4. Disconnect electrical connector (4).5. Remove two bolts (1), and remove shift valve (3) from the frame. For installation of the shift valve, reverse the removal steps. After the shift valve has been installed, fill the hydraulic oil tank to the correct level. Start By:a. remove shift valve1. Make sure the shift valve is clean and free of dirt and debris. 2. Remove nut (3), and remove coil (2) from valve body (1). During assembly, tighten nut (3) to a torque of 4.1 N m (3.0 lb ft). 3. Remove valve cartridge (4) from valve body (1). During assembly, tighten valve cartridge (4) to a torque of 20 N m (27 lb ft). 4. Remove O-ring seals (5) and back-up ring (6) from valve cartridge (4). Check the back-up ring and O-ring seals for wear or damage and replace if necessary. All valve components must be cleaned and inspected before assembly. Lubricate all the O-ring seals and back-up ring with clean hydraulic oil during assembly. Assemble the valve with all new seals. For assembly of the shift valve, reverse the disassembly steps.End By:a. install shift valve
