Note: Shimming the first stage sun gear and coupling must be done before the brake piston and discs are installed in the gear reducer.
Place the first stage sun gear (1) through the second stage sun gear (2) and output stage sun gear (3) .
Install the coupling (4) in the first stage sun gear (1) .
Install shims (3) and the retaining ring (6) in the first stage sun gear (1). Make sure that there is still a slight movement of the coupling on the first stage sun gear.
You should use a dial indicator (A) in order to measure the amount of end play in the coupling.
Add or remove shims in order to achieve an end play measurement of 0.2540 mm (.010 to .015 inch).
