Start By:a. engage parking brakeb. remove transfer gear to center axle driveshaft Chock the front and back of tractor tires and rear axle tires 1. Remove four bolts, washers and clips (1).2. Disconnect breather line (2).3. Disconnect grease line (3) and suspension cylinder (4). 4. Remove four bolts, washers and clips (5). Disconnect grease line (6) from opposite suspension cylinder (7).5. Reposition the two grease lines and breather line. 6. Disconnect grease line (8) at A-frame assembly (9). Remove fitting (10). 7. Loosen four bolts (11). Do not remove these four bolts. 8. Loosen these four bolts (12) to eliminate remaining tension on pan hardener rod assembly (13).9. Remove four bolts (12) from bracket (14). Allow rod assembly (13) and bracket (14) to swing down. 10. Place Tool (A) under one side of center axle and raise until center axle wheel is clear of the floor. 11. Place Tool (B) under rear frame group (16). Lower Tool (A) until rear frame group (16) rests on Tool (B) and wheel is off the floor.12. Reposition Tool (A) to opposite side of center axle. Place Tool (C) under center axle in place of Tool (A). 13. Remove twenty nuts (17).
Typical Example14. Remove tire from center axle. The weight of the tire and wheel assembly is 884 kg (1950 lb). 15. Use Tool (A) to raise rear frame group (16) to allow removal of Tool (B). After removal of Tool (B), lower rear frame group to allow center axle to sit securely on Tool (C).16. To remove the opposite tire on the center axle, repeat Steps 11, 12 13, 14, 15 and 16. 17. Secure a strap (D) on each side of the body of the trailer. Place a strap (D) around the front of the A-frame assembly (9). Attach Tool (E) on each side of the body to straps (D) and tighten. Remove two bolts (18). 18. Remove eight nuts (19). Parking brake cylinders and disk has been removed. This is not necessary for this procedure. 19. Place lift trucks on each end of the center axle. Raise center axle sufficiently to remove Tool (C).20. Place Tool (F) to front of A-frame assembly.21. Use Tool (G) or (H) to remove pins (20) securing the two suspension cylinders (1) to the center axle.22. After pins (20) are removed, lower the center axle using the lift trucks, Tool (E) and Tool (F). The center axle weighs 1845 kg (4100 lb).23. Refer to Topic, "Rear Axle", for the removal and installation of the A-frame bearings. Refer to the Service Magazine July 8, 1991 for improvements to the suspension A-frames.
