Test Step 1. CHECK THE SENSOR
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the speed sensor.
At the connector for the speed sensor, measure the resistance from contact 2 to contact 1. Expected Result:The correct range of resistance for the sensor is 600 ohms at −40° C (−40° F) to 1800 ohms at 120° C (248° F). Results:
YES - The resistance of the speed sensor is within the correct resistance range. The sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The resistance of the speed sensor is not within the correct resistance range. The speed sensor has failed.Repair: Verify that the speed sensor is causing the problem. Mark the harness connector for the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2". Connect the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2" harness connector to the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1". Connect the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1" harness connector to the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2". Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. If the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2" has failed, the CID 0675 FMI 02 diagnostic code will no longer be active. A CID 0674 FMI 02 diagnostic code for the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1" will become active. If a CID 0674 FMI 02 diagnostic code is active after the sensors are switched, replace the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2". Verify that the new sensor corrects the problem before operating the machine.STOPTest Step 2. SWITCH THE SENSORSThe key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position. The "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2" remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Mark the harness connector of "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2" to track the connector used for each sensor.
Disconnect the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1" from the machine harness.
Switch the speed sensor connectors. Connect the marked machine harness connector for "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2" to the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1". Connect the machine harness connector for "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1" to the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2".
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Observe the status of the active diagnostic code. Expected Result:The CID 0675 FMI 02 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 0674 FMI 02 diagnostic code for the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1" is active after the switch. Results:
YES - The CID 0675 FMI 02 diagnostic code is no longer active after the sensors are switched. A CID 0674 FMI 02 diagnostic code for the "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 1" is now active.Repair: The "Transmission Intermediate Speed Sensor 2" has failed. Replace the speed sensor. Verify that the new speed sensor corrects the problem before operating the machine.STOP
NO - The CID 0675 FMI 02 diagnostic code is still active. Switching the speed sensors did not affect the status of the CID 0675 FMI 02 diagnostic code. The sensor is not causing the problem. Reconnect the machine harness connectors to the correct transmission intermediate speed sensor before proceeding to
