Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is available, use the solution that is identified below.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual , SEBU8406 for maintenance intervals.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual , SEBU8406 , "Suspension Cylinder Mounting - Inspect"Reference: Refer to the Special Instruction , REHS7193 , "Procedure for the Inspection, Repair, and Component Replacement on the Frame of the 793F, 793F AC, and the 793F Command For Hauling Off-Highway Trucks"Reference: Refer to the Reuse And Salvage Guidelines , SEBF9166 , "Repair of Front Strut Support for Off-Highway Trucks"Reference: Refer to the Special Instruction , M0077891 , "Procedure to Perform Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) on the Front Suspension Group of 785, 789 and 793 Off-Highway Trucks"Problem
793 Off-Highway Trucks have had reports of cracking on the front suspension 6E-0730 Head. If the crack is not identified, the crack will propagate to a point where the shaft on the cylinder head will fracture and upper suspension mount will be unconnected. If operated in this condition the front suspension casting will be damaged and severe cracking will develop. This scenario can cause excessive customer downtime to repair or replace the casting.Solution
Visually inspect the Front Upper Suspension Cylinder Mounting per the recommendations in the current revision of the 793F and 793F XQ Operation and Maintenance Manual:
Operation and Maintenance Manual , SEBU8406 , Daily Inspection
Operation and Maintenance Manual , SEBU8406 , Suspension Cylinder Mounting - InspectUltrasonically inspect the Front Suspension Heads. The inspection procedure of the head uses a straight beam examination. The inspection procedure is used to identify any damage that has developed during the operation of the machine. The recommended interval for this procedure is every 1000 service hours unless an inspection interval has been established for your particular application. For more details refer to:
Special Instruction , M0077891 , "Procedure to Perform Ultrasonic Inspection (UT) on the Front Suspension Group of 785, 789 and 793 Off-Highway Trucks"Note: The Requirements (Personnel and Apparatus) for Ultrasonically Testing Front Suspension Heads is the same as the Inspection Procedure for the Ball Stud for Off-Highway Trucks.Any defects found on the head, bearing, or cap should be repaired immediately by replacing with new parts. Do not place a machine in service with an identified upper suspension mount issue. Operating a machine with a damaged upper suspension mount will cause severe cracking on the front suspension casting that can, if not identified and repaired, require casting replacement. If a machine is found to be operating with an unconnected upper suspension shaft, perform a thorough frame inspection and remove the front suspension cylinder to inspect the suspension mounting flanges (upper and lower). Refer to Special Instruction , REHS7193 , "Procedure for the Inspection, Repair, and Component Replacement on the Frame of the 793F, 793F AC, and the 793F Command For Hauling Off-Highway Trucks" for frame inspection information.Refer to Reuse And Salvage Guidelines , SEBF9166 , "Repair of Front Strut Support for Off-Highway Trucks" for suspension mounting flange
