Front suspension cylinder (1) Port (2) Holes (3) Holes (4) Valve ring (5) Cushion ring (6) Damper (7) Piston (8) Holes (9) Piston rod (10) End capWhen the suspension cylinder is extending, pressurized oil from the accumulator flows through port (1), holes (2) in damper (6), the counterbore of piston rod (9), and the holes in valve ring (4) to the space above piston (7). The oil flows until damper (7) is clear of cushion ring (5). Oil from the rod end of the suspension cylinder enters the counterbore through holes (8) .As the piston rod approaches the fully extended position, holes (8) are progressively closed by end cap (10) and the oil flow from the rod end of the suspension cylinder is restricted. This causes a dampening of the movement of the suspension cylinder.When the suspension cylinder is retracting, oil flows from the head end of the suspension cylinder through holes (2) and port (1) to the accumulator. The oil then flows through holes (8) to the rod ends of the suspension cylinder. As the suspension cylinder approaches the fully retracted position, damper (5) enters cushion ring (5). This causes valve ring (4) to press downward and the holes in cushion ring (5) close. The oil flow from the suspension cylinder is now restricted to holes (3). This cushions the movement of the suspension cylinder as the fully retracted position is approached.
