Piston Pump

(13) Control piston Perform the following procedure for shaft bearing end play adjustment when any of these components are replaced:
Shaft (2)
Housing (3)
Cone (4) or (11)
Cup (8) or (12)
Head (10)Note: Do not install the pump rotating group (6) when you perform this procedure.
Remove the following components from the head (10):
Bias piston (9)
Control piston (13)
Bias spring (5)Note: Make sure that the cups (8) and (12) and the cones (4) and (11) are positioned against the shoulders of the components.
Install the cone (4) on the splined end of the shaft (2).
Install cup (8) in the housing (3).
Install cup (12) in the head (10).
Install the shaft (2) and cone (4) into the housing (3).
Install the cone (11) onto the shaft (2).
Install the shaft (2), the cones (4) and (11) and the housing (3) into the head (10) without the shaft shim kit.
When you are assembling the head (10) to the housing (3), position the gasket on the housing (3).
Tighten the six bolts (1) to the required torque. Note: For assembly, use two studs in order to align the head and the housing.
Position the pump so that the spline on the shaft (2) is pointing upward.
To seat the cones, rotate the shaft backward and forward several times.
Position a 8T-5096 Dial Indicator Group so that the contact point of the dial indicator is on the end of the shaft spline.
Position the dial indicator to zero.
Place 8H-8582 Straight Jaw Plier underneath the shaft spline. Then lift up on the shaft. Read the dial indicator while the shaft is under an upward force.
Subtract desired shaft bearing end play of 0.010 to 0.100 mm (.0004 to .0039 inch) from the dial indicator reading that is noted in Step 14. This is the thickness of shims (7) to use from the shaft shim kit in order to achieve proper shaft bearing end play.

Subtract desired shaft bearing end play. 0.010 to 0.100 mm (.0004 to .0039 inch)
Required thickness of shims 1.006 to .916 mm (.0396 to .0361 inch)
Remove the six bolts (1) and remove the head (10) from the housing (3).
Remove cone (11) from the shaft (2).
Install the correct thickness of shims (7) from Step 15 on the shaft (2).
Install cone (11) onto the shaft (2).
Repeat Steps 8 through 14.
If measured shaft bearing end play is not 0.010 to 0.100 mm (.0004 to .0039 inch), repeat Steps 15 through 20.
