(12)Inspect Gauges for Proper Charge
Fire suppression agents, either halon or dry chemical type, may create hazards to people if discharged on them. Halon agent can cause extreme cold that can freeze skin. It can cause dizziness, reduced coordination, reduced visibility and exposure to toxic decomposition products. If symptoms persist after exposure, consult a physician.Dry chemical agent can irritate eyes, skin and nasal passages. If the agent gets into eyes, flush thoroughly with water, then consult a physician. In case of inhalation or skin contact, wash all exposed areas with soap and water. If irritation persists, consult a physician.The Fire Suppression System will not be able to suppress a fire and protect the operator unless the nitrogen and agent cylinder is fully charged.The nitrogen and agent cylinders must be recharged if the system has been activated or the gauges show less than full charge. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for recharging information.
Nitrogen actuators activate the fire suppression agent cylinder valve. One nitrogen actuator is located in the cab. Another nitrogen actuator is located on the rear of the tractor.Check nitrogen actuators for proper charge. Gauges should be in the green range. 1. Lift the agent cylinder cover up. 2. Look at the agent cylinder temperature gauge. The temperature should be at or above the outside temperature.3. If equipped with a pressure gauge, the indicator should be in the green range.4. Do not start the tractor unless all gauges indicate the proper charge.5. Close the cover.Fire Extinguisher
