Information:
System Operation Description:Use this procedure under the following situation:Use this procedure to determine if the service brake pedal position (switch 2) is preventing normal operation of the cruise control, the idle set speed or the PTO.Service Brake Pedal Position (Switch 2)The service brake pedal position (switch 2) is required when the "Transmission Style" parameter is programmed to "Automatic Option 2" or "Automatic Option 3". The service brake pedal position (switch 2) has an identical function as the service brake pedal position (switch 1). The service brake pedal position (switch 2) is used only when a redundant system is required. Unlike the service brake pedal position (switch 1) which connects to the sensor common, the service brake pedal position (switch 2) connects to the +Battery. This provides a fully redundant system.A logged fault will be present if the status of the two brake switches do not agree. The service brake pedal position (switch 2) is used to exit cruise control, PTO mode (cab switches), or idle. The service brake pedal position (switch 2) may also be used to override the idle shutdown timer during the last 30 seconds. This capability is determined by the setting of the "Allow Idle Shutdown Override".
Refer to Troubleshooting, "Service Brake Pedal Position (Switch 1) Circuit - Test" for more details on the operation of the brake pedal position switches.

(P1-64) Service brake pedal position (switch 2)
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the switch.
Check the allen head screw for each of the ECM connectors for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the switch to the ECM. Expected Result:All connectors, pins and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points. Results:
OK - The harness and connectors appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a problem with the connectors and/or wiring.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check the Switch Status on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET)
