Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the steering frame lock.
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking.When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component.Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.
Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement.Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames before working on machine.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a hard level surface and apply the parking brake. Chock the wheels of the machine in order to prevent any movement of the machine during the maintenance procedure.
Relieve the system pressure. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR5129, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting".
Manually disengage the parking brake. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Parking Brake Manual Release".

Loosen retaining nut (3) in order to disconnect hose (2) from actuator (1).

Remove cotter pin (4) and pin (5) in order to release shoe retainer (6).

Remove two springs (8), two brake shoes (7) and two spacers (9).

Attach suitable nylon lifting slings around parking brake (10) and around actuator (1). Attach the slings to a suitable hoist.

Remove four bolts (11) and four washers (12). Use the slings and the hoist that was attached in step 7 to remove parking brake (10) from the machine. Be careful not to foul any wires or loose hoses. The weight of the parking brake is 45 kg (100 lb). Installation Procedure
