Do not let any dirt or foreign material get into the hydraulic system during assembly, connection of lines, when components are filled with fluid or during any maintenance operation. Clean all paint, dirt, or rust from all ripper mounting surfaces.
When a hoist is used to lift any part or assembly, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly.
The machine must be equipped with a 143 Hydraulic Control Arrangement. See Form SMHS7195 for installation instructions. The illustrations show rippers with serial numbers 58D, 85G and 98G. 91X Rippers are installed in a similar procedure except that the lift cylinder has a different type of mount (fastener). Use the Parts Book along with this instruction for the correct installation procedure. 1 Remove the drawbar from the machine. Remove brackets (1) and (2). Remove studs (3) from the bevel gear case. Install eight 3K7776 Studs (4). Tighten studs (4) to 170 20 lb. ft. (230 35) torque. 2 Put 4K6782 Bracket (5) in position on drawbar assembly (6) and install 4K6313 Pin (7) and 5H7902 Screws (8) with 3B4510 Lockwashers. Put drawbar (6) in position under the bevel gear case and fasten bracket (5) to the case with two L1178 Bolts and two 2A1538 Bolts with 3B4512 Lockwashers. 3 Install 4V143 Plate Assembly (9) on studs (4). Measure distance (X) between plate (9) and drawbar (6). Install 2K5384, 3K2409, 4K8690 and 4K8696 Shims as needed to keep a gap of .0075" .0075" (.190 .190) between drawbar (6) and plate (9). Install 1D4609 Bolts (10) with 5H1504 Washers and 2J3506 Nuts tightened to 350 35 lb.ft. (470 45) torque. Install 9H1031 Washers and 1A5666 Nuts (11) tightened to 550 60 lb.ft. (750 80) torque. 4 Install 2K7187 Stop (12) on 3K2410 Plate Assembly (13) with 1B4203 Nuts and 3B4506 Lockwashers. Install plate (13) with S1592 Bolts and 3B4510 Lockwashers. Install 5K2731 Plate Assemblies (14) with S1625 Bolts (15), 9H1024 Washers and 4K367 Nuts tightened to 170 20 lb.ft. (230 25) torque. 5 Install link assembly (16) with 2K6408 Pins (17) and 3B5325 Cotter Pins. Put link (16) on wood blocks. Install links (18) with 2K6409 Pins (19) and 3B5325 Cotter Pins. Install carriage assembly (20) with 2K6408 Pins and 3B5325 Cotter Pins. Connect links (18) to carriage (20) with 2K6409 Pins and 3B5325 Cotter Pins. 6 Put blocks (21) on cylinder (22) and install the cylinder on carriage (20). Install 1D5976 Bolts (23), 9H1031 Washers and 2J3505 Nuts tightened to 700 70 lb.ft. (950 95) torque. Connect cylinder (22) to link (16) with 2K7485 Pin (24). Install 2K703 Washer (25) with S1585 Bolts and 3B4508 Lockwashers. 7 Remove plugs (26). Install 307982 Unions (27). Connect 3G5737 Hose Assembly (28) between the head end of cylinder (22) and tube (29). Connect 3G5737 Hose Assembly (30) to the rod end of cylinder (22) and tube (31). 8 Install 8J1434 Tooth Group
