Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.
Note: To improve the reliability of the speed sensor, the sensor should be installed without getting oil on the connector end of the sensor. To ensure that oil does not get on the connector end, follow all instructions. Plug the motor case drain line at the pump and set the depth of the sensor before you install the speed sensor in the motor.
Remove the vent cap from the hydraulic tank in order to release any pressure. Disconnect the motor case drain line at the pump. Cap both the line and the pump. This step minimizes the oil that is draining from the motor when you remove the speed sensor. If a vacuum is available, the vacuum may be placed on the hydraulic tank in order to limit the oil that may drain from the motor.
The depth of the 194-4966 Sensor can be preset to the correct depth by using the 198-8732 Speed Sensor Gauge .
Remove the old speed sensor from the motor.

Refer to Illustration 1 in order to check for gap (2) between depth gauge (1) and motor housing (3). If there is a gap, use the 12 mm depth on the depth gauge to set the locknuts. Refer to Illustration 2 in order to check for gap (5) between depth gauge (1) and motor housing (3). If there is no gap, use the 15 mm depth on the depth gauge to set the locknuts.

If you are setting the depth to 12 mm, apply a high strength 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound or 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound 12 to 20 mm (0.5 to 0.8 inch) from the tip of the sensor. If you are setting the depth to 15 mm, apply a high strength 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound or 155-0695 Thread Lock Compound 15 to 23 mm (0.6 to 0.9 inch) from the tip of the sensor. Refer to Illustration 3 in order to set the depth of the sensor with the depth gauge. Both sensor (8) and the locknut should contact (7) the depth gauge. WHEN YOU ARE SETTING THE DEPTH OF THE LOCKNUTS, THE SEAL WASHER SHOULD NOT BE ON THE SENSOR. Lock the nuts together to a torque of 49 N m (36 lb ft).
