Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the vibration damper. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper - Remove".

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Typical example
Lay the vibration damper flat with filler plugs (1) upward.
The vibration damper is filled with silicone. This substance is very thick and must be removed with a putty knife. Wear gloves in order to avoid skin irritation.
Remove filler plugs (1) . Allow the vibration damper to settle for eight hours at room temperature.

Remove the bolts that connect cover (2) to hub (3) and ring (4) . Remove cover (2) .

Remove bearings (5) .

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to inertia weight (6) . The weight of inertia weight (6) is approximately 340 kg (750 lb). Remove inertia weight (6) .
Remove bearings (7) .

Remove O-ring seals (8) and (9) . Discard the O-ring seals.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to hub (3) and ring (4) . The combined weight of cover (10) , hub (3) , and ring (4) is approximately 118 kg (260 lb). Turn over cover (10) , hub (3) , and ring (4) onto a piece of cardboard.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cover (10) . The combined weight of cover (10) and ring (4) is approximately 43 kg (95 lb). Remove the bolts that attach cover (10) to hub (3) . Lift cover (10) and ring (4) as a unit from hub (3) .

Remove cover (10) from ring (4) . Remove the O-ring seal. Discard the O-ring seal.
Remove O-ring seal (11) . Discard the O-ring seal.
Thoroughly clean all the parts. Inspect the parts for wear and/or damage.
