START BY:a) remove blade lift bar **Removal of the blade lift bar is necessary only if a replacement is made to one of the inner three bushings in the centershift lock plate. 1. Remove snap ring (2) and shims (3) from bushing (1). 2. Remove the bushing from lock plate (4) toward the front of the machine with tooling (A). 3. Lower the temperature of the new bushing to -70°F to -90°F (-57°C to -68°C). Install the bushing in the lock plate with tooling (B). Install the bushing so it makes contact with the shoulder in the lockplate. 4. Install shims (3) and snap ring (2). Use a feeler gauge to check the distance between the snap ring and the shims. Add or subtract shims until the distance between the shims and the snap ring is a maximum of .014 in. (0.35 mm).
