& Install Water Temperature Regulator
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Product Guide", NENG2500, for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal.2. Remove two bolts (1) and elbow (2). Remove the gasket and O-ring seal from the elbow.3. Remove bolts (3) that hold the water temperature regulator housing to the cylinder head assembly, and remove water temperature regulator housing (4). 4. Remove water temperature regulator (5) from the housing. 5. Remove lip seal (6) from the housing. The following steps are for installation of the water temperature regulator.6. Install lip seal (6) in the water regulator housing with Tooling (A). Install the lip seal with the lip of the seal away from the regulator.7. Install water temperature regulator (5) in the housing as shown.8. Put the gasket in position between the cylinder head assembly and the water temperature regulator housing. Install water temperature regulator housing (4).9. Install the gasket and O-ring seal for elbow (2). Install elbow (2) in the water pump. Install the two bolts that hold the elbow to the water temperature regulator housing.10. Fill the cooling system to the correct coolant level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
