Introduction
This procedure confirms that the neutral start switch is properly operating. Perform this test if the engine can be started while the propel lever is out of the NEUTRAL position. Also perform this test if the engine cannot be started.Required Tools

Tool    Item    Qty    Part No    Description
A         1     146-4080     Digital Multimeter Gp
B         1     7X-1710     Multimeter Probe    Test Preparation
Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

Move propel lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.
Move parking brake switch (4) to the ON position.
If the machine is equipped with a leveling blade, use blade control lever (3) to lower the blade to the ground.
Move throttle control switch (5) to the LOW-IDLE position.Note: The engine rpm will appear on machine display (2) .
Illustration 2 g03749872
Allow the engine to run for 5 minutes. Move engine start switch (6) to the OFF position.
Block the wheels. Block the drum.
Raise the platform. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Platform Tilt".
Illustration 3 g03777911
Disconnect neutral start switch (8) from machine electric harness assembly (7) .
Insert the spoons of Tool (B) into the end of connector (7) that is attached to neutral start switch (8). Connect Tool (B) to the "COM" port and "V-Ohms" port on Tool (A). Test Procedure
Confirm propulsion lever (1) is in the NEUTRAL position.
Set Tool (A) to measure continuity. The circuit across neutral start switch (8) should be closed. If the circuit across the switch is closed, go to Step 8. If the circuit across the switch is open, go to Step 3.

Remove cotter pin (11) and clevis pin (10) from clevis (9) .
Illustration 5 g03789397
Remove bolts (12) from rod ends (13) .
Remove synchronization linkage (15) .
Allow control levers (14) to center.
Measure the continuity across neutral start switch connector (7). The circuit across the neutral start switch connector should be closed. If the circuit is closed, adjust the propel cable. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Piston Pump Control Linkage - Test and Adjust". After the cable is adjusted, go back to Step 1 of this test procedure. If the circuit across the neutral start switch connector remains open in Step 2, perform the adjustment procedure for the neutral start switch.
Move propel lever (1) into the forward range. The circuit across neutral start switch connector (7) should open.Note: Propel lever (1) has a deadband of a few degrees. The state of circuit across neutral start switch connector (7) will not change until the propel handle is moved beyond the deadband.
Move propel lever (1) into the reverse range. When the propel lever is moved beyond the deadband, the circuit across neutral start switch connector (7) should open.
