Makeup Valve Operation
Illustration 1 g02952116
(1) Crossover relief valve (2) Spring chamber (3) Spring (4) Passage (5) Spool (6) Passage from the low-pressure side of the drive loop (7) Supply passage of charge oil from the hydraulic oil filterWhen the oil pressure in spring chamber (2) and the force of spring (3) is less than the charge oil pressure in passage (4), charge oil pressure forces valve spool (5) upward. Charge oil flows from passage (7) through passage (4) to spool (5). The oil flows past spool (5) through passage (6) back to the drive loop.Relief Valve Operation

(1) Crossover relief valve (2) Spring (3) Port (4) Pilot valve (5) Passage (6) Spring (7) Spring chamber (8) Valve (9) Passage (10) Passage from the high-pressure side of the drive loopOil flows from the drive loop to crossover relief valve (1) through passage (10). Hydraulic oil flows through passage (9) into spring chamber (7). Oil pressure combines with spring (6) in spring chamber (7) in order to hold valve (8) closed. The oil also acts against pilot valve (4) which is held closed by spring (2) .If the oil pressure in spring chamber (7) rises enough to overcome the force of spring (2), the oil pressure causes pilot valve (4) to move upward. When pilot valve (4) moves upward, the valve opens a path for the oil in spring chamber (7) to flow from the pilot valve through port (3) to passage (5). Then, the oil flows from passage (5) to the outlet port of crossover relief valve (1) .Since pilot valve (4) is open to the low-pressure pilot oil circuit, hydraulic oil that is acting against valve (8) can now overcome the force of spring (6) in spring chamber (7). The oil pressure against valve (8) forces the valve upward and the valve opens.Because valve (8) is open, the oil flows through the pilot oil circuit to the low-pressure side of the loop. The open crossover relief valve prevents the oil pressure of the stalled circuit from increasing above the setting of the crossover relief valve.
