Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.

Remove stud (1) .
Disconnect cable (2) and disconnect harness assembly (3) .
Remove nuts (5) and remove bracket assembly (4) .

Disconnect tube assembly (6) .

Remove drain plugs (7) and (8). Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change". Remove the O-ring seal from the drain plugs.
Remove nuts (10) .
Remove bolts (11) and remove oil pan (9) .Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Clean the sealing surface of the engine oil pan, cylinder block, housing (front), and the flywheel housing.

Position oil pan (9) and install nuts (10) .
Install bolts (11) .
Install the O-ring seal and drain plugs (7). Tighten drain plugs (7) to a torque of 70 15 N m (52 11 lb ft).
Install the O-ring seal and drain plugs (8). Tighten drain plugs (8) to a torque of 90 15 N m (66 11 lb ft).

Connect tube assembly (6) .

Position bracket assembly (4) and install nuts (5) .
Install stud (1) .
Connect cable assembly (2) .
Connect harness assembly (3) .
Fill the engine oil pan to the correct level that is indicated on the engine oil level gauge. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities and Recommendations" for the lubrication system capacity of the engine.
