Introduction
The METSmanager system consists of the following programs: METSmanager and METScomms. These programs work together in order to perform the tasks. The user uses the METSmanager program. Instructions are sent from METSmanager to METScomms. METScomms converts the files. The files are then sent to the machines.Starting
The METSmanager program determines if the METScomms software is operating. This occurs when the METSmanager software is started. If METScomms is not operating, then METScomms is started.Several METSmanager programming sessions can be started at the same time. All of the programming sessions will communicate with a single METScomms application.Running
Note: The METScomms software is designed to run continuously. If the software is shut down, the machines may accumulate too much data. If the local storage in the machines is filled, then some data may be lost. At a minimum, restart the METScomms program on a monthly basis. The METScomms program requires one of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 or a later versionMETScomms is not supported on Microsoft Windows 95.METSmanager can operate on Windows 95. METSmanager can communicate with a METScomms program that is operating on Windows NT version 4.0, Windows 2000, or a later version.METSmanager can be operated at the same time from different computers on the network. The METSmanager program can also be operated from a remote location. Remote operation uses Microsoft DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) in order to communicate between computers on a Local Area Network (LAN) or a Wide Area Network (WAN).For more information, use "Find" to search for "METScomms" in the METSmanager Help Topics.Exiting
When the user exits from METSmanager, METScomms continues to run. METScomms communicates with the machines. METScomms updates site models with the terrain data snippets. If the user closes METScomms, then METScomms first checks that there are no METSmanager programming sessions that are communicating with METScomms. If there are current METSmanager programming sessions, then the "METSmanager Still Running?" dialog that is shown in Illustration 1 appears.

This dialog provides the user with an opportunity to force the shutdown of METScomms.
