Adjust the main relief valve.
Loosen locknut (26). Maintain the position of adjustment screw (27). Note: One turn of the adjustment screw changes the pressure setting by 235 kPa (34 psi).
Turn adjustment screw (27) by the desired amount.
Do not allow the adjustment screw to rotate when you tighten the locknut.
Tighten the locknut to a torque of 18 4 N m (13 3 lb ft).Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Taps" in this module.Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Charts" in this module.Expected Results
The main relief pressure is correct.
The original problem is resolved.Results
OK: Stop.
NOT OK: Proceed to Step 7.
Follow the procedure in this reference.Refer to "System Pressure Is Low" in this module under Troubleshooting, "Oil Pressure Troubleshooting".Results
REPAIRED OKAY: Stop.
NOT OKAY: Proceed to Step 8.
Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing. If the machine begins to move during test, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.
Measure the pressure at the torque converter inlet.Note: Measure the pressure when the oil is cold. Do not allow the machine to reach the normal operating temperature before you measure the pressure.Follow this procedure in order to adjust the pressure setting for the torque converter inlet relief valve. The priority valve is a unit that includes the priority valve and the torque converter inlet relief valve. If the pressure setting at the torque converter inlet is low then the valve may be directing oil back to the tank. Therefore, the oil does not go through the oil cooler. The system temperature increases as a result. Observe the oil path in Testing and Adjusting, "Schematic".
Start the engine. Measure the pressure at pressure tap (C). Note the pressure.
Turn off the engine.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Charts" in this module.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Taps" in this module.Expected Results
The pressure is correct.Results
OK: Stop.
NOT OK: Change the oil. Change the oil filter elements and clean the screens. Check the operation of the machine for the original problem. If the conditions are not resolved, proceed to Step 9.

Adjust the pressure.
Loosen the locknut that is on adjustment screw (28). Maintain the position of the adjustment screw.Note: One turn of the adjustment screw changes the pressure setting by 40 kPa (6 psi).
The correct pressure setting is 900 kPa (130 psi). Turn adjustment screw (28) by the desired amount.
Do not allow the adjustment screw to rotate when you tighten the locknut.
Tighten the locknut to a torque of 25 4 N m (18 3 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 8 through 9.d until the pressure is correct.Reference: Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure Charts"Expected Results
The pressure is 900 kPa (130 psi).
The original problem is resolved.Results
OK: Stop.
NOT OK: Proceed to Step 10.
Check the scavenge screen.
Inspect the scavenge line screen.
Check for obstructions.Reference: Refer to Systems Operation, "Magnetic Screen" in the Service Manual for your machine, if equipped.Expected Results
