Start By:
Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate".
Remove the steering motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Motor - Remove".
Remove the drive axles. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove and Install".
Drain the oil from the transmission system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission System Oil and Screens - Change/Clean".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolts (1) from adapter (2) .
Install Tooling (D) in Holes (X). Remove adapter (2) .

Remove O-ring seal (3) from adapter (2) .

Insert Tooling (A) 940 mm (37.0 inch) in the final drive housing. Use Tooling (A) in order to slide the sliding carrier off the bevel gear shaft.
Rotate Tooling (A) by 180 degrees.
Pull Tooling (A) until the sliding carrier stops.
Rotate Tooling (A) by 180 degrees and remove Tooling (A) .

Adjust Tooling (B) as Tooling (B) is shown in Illustration 5. Remove two bolts (4). Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device. The weight of the final drive, the differential, and the brake is approximately 850 kg (1875 lb).
Remove seven bolts (5). Install Tooling (C) .

Remove remaining bolts (5) and remove bolts (7). Do not remove bolts (6) .

Pull outward on final drive (9), steering differential (10), and brake (11) by approximately 25 mm (1.0 inch). Final drive (9), steering differential (10), and brake (11) should move freely.
Use Tooling (C) in order to rotate final drive (9), steering differential (10), and brake (11) by 45 to 60 degrees counterclockwise.
Remove final drive (9), steering differential (10), and brake (11) .
Remove O-ring seals (8) .
