Problem
The 1283415 Fan Drive on early (2AW) engines do not have the in-board bearing greased. Later units have the grease seal installed backwards or with damage to the sealing lip.

Attach.(1-Rework Procedure)Rework Procedure
1. Disconnect the fan from the drive and leave it next to the radiator.2. Remove and disassemble the fan drive.3. Clean all components and check the bearings for roughness or overheat. Do NOT spin the bearing with excess air pressure while cleaning.
4. Using 1291939 Grease (Desert Gold - one pound can), pack both bearings.5. Assemble the drive by installing the grease packed inboard bearing and driving the 6V9748 Seal into its bore. The seal lip position per Illustration 1. Lubricate the sealing lips of the seal with the bearing lubricant.
6. Slip the 5S9062 Spacer onto the Bracket Assembly shaft and carefully slip the hub over the shaft. Apply 10 grams of 1291939 Grease to the inner cavity of the hub and slide the 4W2042 Spacer onto the shaft.7. Install the outboard grease packed bearing into the hub and insert the 7E4808 Plate over the bearing and the 6H3956 Pin.8. Install the bolt and washer and tighten to a torque of 115 15 N m.9. Before bolting the fan hub onto the drive assembly, fill the adjacent cavity in the hub with 30 grams of 1291939 Grease.10. Assemble the remaining components.
