Information:
Disconnect governor cable (F) from governor lever assembly (12) .
Remove the seven bolts that secure case (10) to the back plate. Remove the case.
Turn over the case. The governor spring (9) and associated parts will be visible. Remove the former governor spring and install a new governor spring. The new governor spring will be much stiffer. Move the case assembly to one side.

Disassembly Of The Governor Weight Assembly
Remove the three bolts that secure weight assembly (4) .

Weight Assembly (4) 259-8502 Weight As (G) PinNote: The weight assembly in Illustration 7 shows the weight assembly on the gear.
Carefully cut pin (G) from the weight assembly. If the surface of the pin is worn, shaft assembly (5) will not slide smoothly. The function of the pin is for preventing shaft assembly (5) from turning. The system will operate satisfactorily without the pin. The pin is not needed. It is not necessary for the cut of the pin to be flush with the base plate. If part of the pin remains, make sure that the part does not engage with the hole in the shaft assembly. Make sure that the cut surface on the pin is free from burrs and thoroughly cleaned.
Remove all of the former gasket from case (10) and the back plate. Make sure that the former gasket is completely removed. Make sure that the fragments of the former gasket are not located between the gear teeth or behind the gears.
Install the modified weight assembly. Tighten the three bolts evenly to a torque of 18.7 4 N m (14 3 lb ft).
Install the shaft assembly.
Smear the back side of the new 246-3077 Gasket and the surface of the case with 185-3985 Gasket Sealant . Install the gasket and the case. Tighten the seven bolts evenly to a torque of 18.7 4 N m (14 3 lb ft).
Install crankshaft pulley (C). Tighten the nut to a torque of 220 25 N m (162 18 lb ft). Use two threaded studs (E) and bar (D) to hold the crankshaft while you tighten the nut.

Cover Assembly (H) 253-5566 Cover As
If the 253-5566 Cover As was previously installed, remove cover assembly (H). Replace the cover assembly with a new oil filler (7) and a new cap assembly (6). Use a new gasket (8). The 253-5566 Cover As could remain on the engine. The cover assembly has the disadvantage of not having the cap assembly. Installation of a new 253-9180 Oil Filler allows the engine oil level to be maintained through the cap assembly. The recommendation is for the installation of the 253-9180 Oil Filler in order to allow the engine oil level to be maintained through the cap assembly. If the 253-5566 Cover As is reused, the oil level can be maintained through an alternative filler cap on the top of the engine. The alternative filler
