Filter elements (2) are held in position inside hydraulic tank (1) by filter base (5) and covers (3). The oil flows to the inside of the filter elements. The oil flows through the elements and back to the hydraulic tank. The elements trap any debris that is in the hydraulic oil.If the filter elements become full of debris, the restriction to the flow of oil causes a pressure increase inside the filter elements. The pressure of the oil causes filter bypass valve (6) to move against the force of bypass spring (7). This allows the oil to flow through bypass tube (8) and into the hydraulic tank.Oil that bypasses the filter elements may cause damage to other components within the hydraulic system. Correct maintenance must be performed in order to make sure that the filter elements do not become full of debris.
